The UK Green Building Council states that the built environment contributes around 40% of the UK’s total carbon footprint. Almost half of this is from energy used in buildings and infrastructure that has nothing to do with their functional operation. Meanwhile, the UK government has set in law the world’s most ambitious climate change target, cutting emissions by 78% by 2035 compared to 1990 levels.
Around 35 staff are now employed at Lookers’ newest franchise location in Sunderland which is the official home of Nissan in the UK, where more than 6,000 people are locally employed to accelerate the Japanese car giant’s plans to create a major electric vehicle manufacturing hub to support its UK and European growth ambitions.
Electric Qashqai and Juke models will be built alongside the next generation Leaf which is already produced there. The scheme will help preserve the jobs of about 6,000 workers directly, and thousands more in the supply industry across the UK
The business, in Sealand Road, beat off competition from around 150 other Nissan outlets across the UK after being put up for the award by Gordon Hunter, Nissan Aftersales Performance Manager.

Deal is part of a typical three or four year HP (Hire Purchase) or PCP (Personal Contract Purchase) car finance agreement on Nissan LEAF and e-NV200 models. The offer is the result of Nissan working separately with two leading EV chargepoint providers, Pod Point and E.ON.
They have been awarded EVA status after an independent audit from the Energy Savings Trust, endorsed by the Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles and designed to recognise a business’ excellence in the EV sector.
