Agency models will drive change in used car retailing

The over-arching principle of the agency models currently being discussed would see an online/offline model with the manufacturer (OEM) interacting with customers digitally and taking responsibility for order taking, pricing and payments. Dealers would take care of the offline test drive, part-exchange and vehicle handover elements. The aim is to take time, cost and variation, notably vehicle pricing, out of the equation.

With attention now turning to the FCA's announcement on their proposed Consumer Duty plans, dealers can see this regulation as an opportunity to improve consumer perceptions of used car dealers still further and as MotoNovo's Commercial Director Debbie McKay said consumer regulation can be an opportunity today to differentiate the dealer model.

The increasing importance of signposting ULEZ and CAZ stock

In some cases, CAZs will see daily charging for non-compliant vehicles, while there will be no charge in others. In Scotland, the four LEZ city centres will see such vehicles banned entirely. Rather than a non-compliance charge, the LEZ will see owners of ineligible motors issued with a Penalty Charge Notice.
