Volkswagen high demand

Volkswagen is the most-configured brand on Carwow so far this year, with an 8.9% share of all vehicle configurations, according to new figures from the platform.

The carmaker also accounted for 9.1% of all consumer enquiries, the highest of any brand, with volumes up 10% year-on-year in April 2025.

Carwow data reveals ongoing gaps between supply and demand in key UK regions, with two-thirds of locations showing supply shortfalls from Volkswagen retailers.

Leeds, Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and Newcastle upon Tyne were highlighted as the most affected areas.

These locations collectively account for 8% of all Volkswagen configurations and enquiries and 10% of Volkswagen sales on the platform.

The Tiguan is currently the most-configured Volkswagen on Carwow, followed by the Golf and Polo. However, the wider market is seeing shifts in consumer interest.

“Competition for market share amongst brands is continuing to ramp up as we approach the halfway point of the year,” Sepi Arani, managing director of media and commercial at Carwow, said: “Volkswagen holds a strong position, but with new entrants increasingly securing favour with UK car buyers and new retail partners, we’re seeing a gradual shift in brand popularity.”

The platform also noted that the JAECOO 7 has become the most-configured model so far in Q2, with Chinese brands dominating eight of the ten most-viewed car reviews.

Meanwhile, interest in battery electric vehicles continues to rise, with configurations up 39% and enquiries up 79% year-on-year. Volkswagen’s ID range ranked fifth in both BEV configurations and enquiries last month.

Used Volkswagen models are also proving attractive to trade buyers in Carwow’s daily online auctions. The 2020 Golf GTI ranked second in profit potential at £3,386, followed by the 2021 Golf R at £3,196 and the 2020 Tiguan at £2,702, all within the top 10 for Q1 2025.
