Vertu Motors has renewed its support for one of Gateshead’s oldest cultural institutions, Dunston Silver Band, reaffirming a partnership that now includes a fresh commitment to the band’s future and community outreach.
Originally supported under the Bristol Street Motors brand, the collaboration has now been re-established under the wider Vertu Motors banner.
As part of the renewed backing, Vertu has provided new uniforms and financial support that has allowed the band to expand its reach, including the launch of a new Dunston Community Band for beginners of all ages.
The investment comes at a time of notable success for Dunston Silver Band, which has recently risen in the Second Section rankings and earned a place at two of the UK’s most prestigious contests.
In March, the band took second place at the North of England Brass Band Championships, securing a place at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain later this year.
Vertu Motors’ chief executive Robert Forrester, who also takes on the honorary role of President of Dunston Silver Band, has a personal connection to the group.
Forrester said: “It’s a real honour to serve as President of such a historic and much-loved local band.
“I once played trombone with the band after moving to the North East to join Reg Vardy, so this partnership is very close to my heart.
“I’m proud of what the band has accomplished, and proud that Vertu can help drive its continued success and impact.”
Keith Lee, committee member and trustee of the band, added: “Vertu’s support has been instrumental, not just in helping us look sharp on stage, but in enabling us to keep making music, compete at the highest level, and bring live performance to local audiences.
“We’re proud of what we’ve achieved together and excited for what’s to come.”
