TrakaMEC is the newest addition to Traka Automotive’s range, a mechanical key solution designed for dealerships and service centres which are not yet demanding fully networked and integrated electronic key management
This is the first time Traka has offered mechanical key management and made possible through the acquisition of KEYper systems in the US – the original manufacturer of Peg-In-Peg-Out technology.
Traka Director Paul Smith said: “We have assessed competitor cabinet solutions in the UK and designed a superior exterior cabinet (TrakaMEC Supreme) at market-leading prices.
“We have also introduced a much simpler, less expensive solution called TrakaMEC Lite for those customers not looking for the security benefits of TrakaMEC Supreme but still requiring key management processes.”
The launch means Traka Automotive can now offer a full portfolio of both mechanical and electronic key management solutions with an upgrade path built into the investment.
As the industry emerges from lockdown, not every dealership is ready for electronic key management.
Smith said: “We can provide an upgrade path from a mechanical system purchase through to an electronic purchase because we manufacture and deliver the full portfolio.
“We can deliver higher quality hardware at lower prices because everything is done in-house.”
TrakaMEC is one element of a global Automotive vehicle and key management strategy. Smith added that other products and solutions are being added and will continue be added to the portfolio to deliver a comprehensive, sophisticated platform of solutions.
TrakaMEC Supreme is the most secure mechanical key solution on the UK’s market while TrakaMEC Lite is an alternative solution where the security benefits of TrakaMEC Supreme are not necessary

TrakaMEC Lite and TrakaMEC Lite Trade Plate Holder
TrakaMEC Lite will be appealing to customers on a lower budget or where security and risk are not of such a concern.
The process for removing and returning keys to the internal boards is exactly the same as with TrakaMEC Supreme. It’s the physical enclosure with Lite which is different.
TrakaMEC Lite is available in 3 cabinet sizes, MINI, Standard and Large offering 3 different key capacities, 50, 100, and 150.
Smith said that customers get a pre allocated bundle of accessories to start them off.
He added: “These are worth a considerable amount of money and make the system fabulous value for money.”
Each cabinet, all manufactured in the US, is built using 0.7mm powder-coated black steel with a lockable T-Handle for added security when not in use.
Smith said: “We have taken the Lite cabinet enclosure and designed a Trade Plate Holder system to fit within it. There is capacity for up to 10 Trade Plates or 5 sets of 2 Trade Plates (Front and Back).
“The Trade Plate System can be locked out-of-hours to prevent access. Managing trade Plates is becoming increasingly important for automotive dealers and we have already seen strong interest in this solution.”
TrakaMEC Lite range is expected to appeal to small independent dealers and service centres and may have a wider interest outside of the automotive industry
Customers can install the system themselves – each system is sent with full instructions on how to do this. Or they can use a Traka engineer.
