SUZUKI is on a role in the UK hitting its highest ever market share of 1.7% and Britain is number one in Europe in terms of the brand’s sales volume.

In its last fiscal year, April 2018 to March this year it sold 38,500 vehicles, it’s second highest total ever in the UK.

Ed Norman, Suzuki GB’s product planning chief said that brand awareness is also at an all-time high and a rising star in the fleet market with growth of 10% last year and already running 3% ahead in 2019.

He added: “This is true fleet business and not daily rental or short cycle business. Overall sales are running 17% up in a market that is down 3% in the first five months of the year.

“Why? Because we have the right models for the market at the moment, small cars and small SUVs.”

He was speaking at the launch of a model update of the Suzuki Swift, the brand’s most important car globally.

Norman added: “We currently have a database of 80,000 current and used Swift owners in the UK and retail sales of this model stand at 3,836 so far this year.

“As well as having the right models for the market, our success is built on providing great value for money with high levels of standard specification.”

The latest line up starts at £12,499 for the SZ3 rising to £17,999 for the 1.4-litre Turbo  Swift Sport.

Half the model’s volume this year is expected to be the £14,999 Attitude special edition, based on the mid spec SZ-T with the looks of the Sport but with a 1.2-litre engine. This car is available on PCP at £179 a month.

The top spec SZ5 is available with Suzuki’s clever Allgrip 4WD system and Norman said that brand is looking to sell a total of 12,500 Swifts in the UK this year.
