KGM Motors UK, formerly known as SsangYong, has raised £2,112.50 for Shipton Moyne Recreation Ground in memory of long-standing motor trade professional and much-loved colleague Martin Allies.

Allies, who died in August 2024, was a respected figure with more than 40 years’ experience in the industry and had been part of the KGM Motors UK team since 2018.

To honour his legacy, the KGM team launched a month-long fundraising challenge to cover 5,400 miles – the symbolic distance from their Swindon headquarters to the Maldives, a destination of deep personal significance to Martin and his wife, Kate.

The total raised was divided between two causes. Half went to Cancer Research UK, KGM’s nominated national charity, and the other half was donated to the Shipton Moyne Recreation Ground, a community facility close to Allies home and family.

Funds will go towards enhancing and maintaining the village green space, including improvements to the children’s playground and support for the annual fireworks display Allies famously helped organise.

These improvements are expected to benefit not only Allies twin grandsons but also many other children in the local area.

Kevin Griffin, managing director at KGM Motors UK, said: “We wanted to do something that not only remembered Martin but also gave back to the community he loved dearly. Martin meant an enormous amount to everyone here at KGM and across our dealer network and is deeply missed by all. This fundraising effort is just one small way we can continue his legacy and support his loved ones, as well as celebrate a place he held very close to his heart.”
