AS part of the move towards electric vehicle sales and servicing, JCT600 has taken the additional step of installing wall-mounted defibrillators inside every one of its dealerships across the North of England.

The decision comes as part of the motor retailer’s commitment to providing safe workplaces for all colleagues, particularly as more and more workshop technicians are becoming ‘High Voltage’ qualified, allowing them to carry out maintenance and repairs on electric vehicles.

More than 100 colleagues across the group have also been trained in using a defibrillator, the majority as part of a ‘First Aid at Work’ course.

The training and defibrillator installations represent an investment of more than £40,000, as well as a statement of real commitment to the company’s 2400-strong workforce.

John Tordoff, Chief Executive of JCT600, said: “As our industry moves towards electrification, it’s so crucial that we’re well-trained and well-prepared for the changes that brings. Installing a defibrillator in every dealership, and making sure we have colleagues who know how to use one in an emergency, is a part of those critical preparations.

“I’m really proud that we’re leading the way on that commitment. I just hope we never have to actually use one of the defibrillators.”

This news follows the roll-out of the Government-backed Electric Vehicle Approved scheme in 2019, which provides a set of standards for EV retail and aftersales to ensure there is consistency and uniformity across the automotive industry, particularly where health and safety standards are concerned.
