New research from MyCarNeedsA.com shows that motorists in some parts of the country are paying up to £82.89 more for servicing and MOTs, than those in more competitive regions.

MyCarNeedsA.com looked at the costs for thousands of MOT and servicing jobs across England and has identified South West London is the most expensive place for a standard MOT & servicing at £195.95. Perhaps, urprisingly Leicester was identified as the next most expensive at with MOT and servicing costs an average of £187.85, followed by Portsmouth (£186.08), Bristol (£180.72), Nottingham (£176.32), Dartford (£174.92) and Wigan (£174.66).

The best value on average was available in Stoke-on-Trent at £113.06 for servicing and MOT, 42% less than cheaper than South West London.  The second cheapest place is Walsall, where it costs £117.89, followed by Doncaster (£127.20), Coventry(£127.99), Swansea (£129.44), Derby (£129.65) and Birmingham (£130.50).

In fact, motorists are paying 73% more for MOT and servicing in South West London, than they are in Stoke-on-Trent less than 200 miles away. There is undoubtedly a postcode lottery and some motorists are being hit hard, paying over the odds for a standard MOT and servicing. “
