Research conducted by Peugeot UK has highlighted key generational differences in what drivers prioritise when choosing a car. The study, which surveyed 2,000 respondents across five generations, found that Gen-Z and Millennials place a strong emphasis on technology, in-car connectivity, and sustainability, while older generations focus more on reliability and environmental impact.

Connectivity features were particularly important to younger generations, with 38% of Gen-Z and 42% of Millennials valuing them, compared to just 10% of Boomers and 3% of the Silent Generation. However, 18% of the Silent Generation said they prefer to use voice commands to control in-car features, second only to Gen-Z.

The research also found that Gen-Z prioritises technology when buying a new car, with 31% citing it as a key factor, compared to just 10% of Boomers. Design was another major consideration for 27% of Gen-Z, compared to 12% of Boomers. Additionally, 25% of Gen-Z said environmental impact was a top concern—more than any other generation.

Technology remained important across all generations, with navigation systems being the most valued feature overall. 45% of Boomers said they would not want to drive without satellite navigation. Peugeot’s i-Connect® Advanced infotainment system includes TomTom® connected navigation, which optimises EV routing, helping drivers plan efficient journeys.

Smart AI assistance was another feature younger generations were particularly interested in, with 46% of Gen-Z and 37% of Millennials wanting AI integration in future cars.

Nicola Dobson, managing director of Peugeot UK, said: “With technology becoming increasingly important to younger drivers, Peugeot is proud to be a tech-forward brand. We already offer the widest EV line-up of any mainstream European brand, and our models are available with a suite of innovative features such as the Panoramic i-Cockpit®, ChatGPT® integration and class-leading electric range. We are committed to developing vehicles that meet modern drivers’ expectations and reinforce our position as leaders in both technology and electrification.”

When asked about autonomous driving, 62% of Gen-Z said future cars should have full self-driving capabilities, compared to just 24% of Boomers. The new Peugeot E-3008 and E-5008 offer Level 2 driver assistance features, including Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Positioning Assist, and Semi-Automatic Lane Change.

Sustainability was important across generations, with 74% of the Silent Generation saying it influenced their car choices. Among Gen-Z, 75% said they wanted their next car to be electric or hybrid. Peugeot offers an all-electric version of every model, with the E-3008 and E-5008 providing some of the best electric ranges in the SUV market at 435 miles and 415 miles respectively.

Peugeot’s latest models also feature the Panoramic i-Cockpit®, a 21-inch curved display integrating the head-up display and touchscreen, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto.
