Wessex Garages raise £10K for charities

Wessex Garages Pennywell Road and The Grand Appeal

Wessex Garages has raised £10,105.36 for its nominated charities in 2014.

The dealer group with outlets across South Wales and the South West will split the funds between its six nominated charities: Penny Brohn Cancer Care, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, Tŷ Hafan, Meningitis Now, St David’s Hospice Care and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity.   The six charities correspond to the group’s 6 sites.

Managing Director at Wessex Garages, Keith Brock explained: “Throughout 2014 staff at each of our dealerships organised and took part in various activities to raise money for their chosen Charity of the Year.These included an eight hour, static, cycle challenge, various competitions and raffles, a fundraising evening with the Cardiff Blues rugby team and fundraising weekends.  All of the charities do crucial work and we are really pleased to have helped raise such a great amount during the last 12 months.”

At the upper end of the fund raising efforts was Wessex Garages on Hadfield Road in Cardiff, which raised £2,015 for Tŷ Hafan, which is based in Sully.Tŷ Hafan was established in 1999. It has helped more than 500 families who live the reality that their children with life-limiting conditions may not reach the age of 18.

Business and Community Fundraiser at Tŷ Hafan, Eleanor Ryan said: “Wessex organised some fantastic fundraisers and also supplied us with four-wheeled support for some of our own events.  We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all the staff and customers that made this donation possible. The final figure is amazing and will really help local families.

“We take support right into the family home and are there to help families through every step of their unimaginable journey. For Tŷ Hafan to offer this unique service to families in Wales, we have to raise more than £3.7 million every year.”
