Heritage Volkswagen tech wins at Skills Show

Harry Garraway, who works at Heritage Volkswagen Van Centre Bristol, has been chosen as the Overall Champion and Gold Medal winner at this year’s Skills Show.

The 20-year-old, was one of only six technicians in the UK to reach the final of a competition which was held at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham from 17 to 19 November.Harry completed his apprentice programme at the end of 2015, became a qualified technician in March and is now on the way to achieving his ambition of becoming a master technician before his 21st birthday in April 2017.

Highflying Harry has also been named Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ apprentice of the year and Volkswagen Group apprentice of the year, and was  one of five apprentices shortlisted for the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Outstanding Achievers award 2016.

Harry commented: “I couldn’t be happier! It’s like a dream come true being selected to represent the brand at the Skills Show. In the past three years, I’ve learnt so much and grown not only as an apprentice and employee, but also as a person.

“I’d encourage anyone with an interest in mechanics to join the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ apprenticeship scheme.”
