Xavier Chardon (pictured) has been appointed as the CEO of Citroen, coming into effect as of June 2nd 2025. He will be reporting to Stellantis Extended Europe chief operating officer Jean-Philippe Imparato.
Chardon is a graduate of the Institute Commercial de Nancy and has spent his entire career in the automotive sector, working in Europe and China.
Joining PSA in 1994, he started his career in Italy, having various positions in the companies headquarters he took over responsibility for Citroen Denmark in 2001, moving to Germany in 2004.
He has held positions such as director of marketing, press and public relations from 2007 to 2009, before becoming managing director of Citroen France until 2011.
Shortly after, he became vice president of European sales for Volkswagen AG in 2012 before taking of responsibility for marketing and communications in 2014.
Two years later, Chardon became vice president of marketing and customers in charge of Volkswagen brand in 2016.
After this he headed the ‘project House Digitalisation’ in China from 2017-2018, then, becoming vice president of sales and marketing for the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture.
Finally, returning to France in 2021 and becoming chairman of the board of management for Volkswagen Group France.
Now he will be venturing into his new role as chief executive officer for Citroen, taking responsibility for the brand’s development and will be building on the recent launches of the C3, C3 Airforce and all-new C5 Aircross ranges.
