Nextbase has acquired artificial intelligence and computer vision assets from British automotive AI firm Humanising Autonomy in a move aimed at accelerating the development of advanced safety and monitoring features in its Dash Cam product range.

The company, which has sold five million Dash Cams worldwide, plans to integrate the newly acquired AI capabilities to power features such as object detection, Advanced Driver Alerts, driver monitoring systems, and enhanced security tools. These developments form part of Nextbase’s wider push to improve safety and efficiency for both individual and commercial users.

Michael Anderson, chief executive officer at Nextbase, said: “Our purpose is to usher in a new era of protection and safety for the everyday journeys of our customers – whether on the road or through the enhancements our CSI imagery enable for our partners. Our current computer vision and AI investments coupled with this targeted acquisition demonstrate our commitment and vow to accelerate features to protect drivers using Nextbase products.”

The company is also expanding its Crowd Sourced Imagery (CSI) platform, which enables users to share Dash Cam footage with partners including mapping providers, local authorities and infrastructure teams. The platform aims to support faster maintenance, better-informed planning, and more responsive road safety interventions. To encourage engagement, Nextbase has launched the Road Safety Club, which allows users to opt in and receive rewards for contributing to road safety improvements.

Ceri Hill, director of engineering at Nextbase, said the acquisition would accelerate the delivery of new technologies. “This acquisition will accelerate new technologies and features including object detection and other key security features of the Nextbase platform. We strongly believe in a future where AI combined with computer vision innovation will enable features to drastically improve safety and protect drivers, passengers and the valuable assets Nextbase individual and commercial customers transport each day,” he said.

Nextbase Dash Cams record more than 15 billion road miles each year, providing extensive global road network coverage. Bryn Brooker, head of road safety at Nextbase, added: “We have already seen new technology such as DMS and ADAS aiming to prevent over 20,000 deaths a year. This latest Nextbase AI development is an exciting time for all road users as we are now able to integrate sophisticated imaging tools to enable our road infrastructure knowledge and understanding of dangerous areas to be vastly improved.”
