Kia and LG unveil smart mobility concepts blending work and leisure
Unveiled at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show, the collaboration aims to introduce innovation centred around Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) architecture.
Kia Corporation and LG Electronics have partnered to develop concept vehicles that integrate advanced home appliances into customisable mobile environments, showcasing their vision for next-generation lifestyle mobility.
Unveiled at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show, the collaboration aims to introduce innovation centred around Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) architecture.
Two new concept models – the PV5 Spielraum Studio and the PV5 Spielraum Glow cabin – were revealed as the first outcome of this initiative, offering mobile spaces tailored to professional and recreational use.
The partnership was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Kia’s pavilion at KINTEX in Goyang.
The ceremony was attended by Won-Jeong Jeong, executive vice president and head of Korea Business Division at Kia, and Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG’s Home Appliance Solution Company.
Won-Jeong Jeong said: “By offering mobility space solutions that combine automobiles with home appliances, we aim to lead a transformative shift in customers’ lifestyles.
“This partnership with LG Electronics advances the core value of PBVs, contributing to a new mobility paradigm where vehicles evolve into personalised spaces for living and working.”
The name ‘Spielraum’, German for ‘play space’, reflects the flexibility and adaptability of the new concepts.
The PV5 Spielraum Studio concept was designed for solo professionals and entrepreneurs who need mobile office space.
It incorporates LG’s AI-powered home appliances including modular LG Stylers for garment care, smart mirrors, and integrated coffee machines.
The system monitors user schedules and travel times, adjusting appliance settings automatically for optimal productivity.
The PV5 Spielraum Glow cabin concept targets the growing trend of car-based leisure and outdoor activities.
It includes luxury convenience appliances such as compact refrigerators, lightwave ovens, and wine cellars, all equipped with LG’s MoodUP™ technology.
The MoodUP panels allow users to customise lighting and colour schemes via app control.
The companies plan to bring the concepts to market in the second half of 2026, signalling a longer-term strategy between Kia and LG to jointly develop AI solutions and smart appliances for in-vehicle use, bridging the gap between home and mobility.
