BYD’s SEALION 7 SUV has achieved a maximum five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, performing strongly across all four areas of the independent crash testing body’s latest assessment.

The vehicle, launched in Europe in late 2024, features BYD’s Cell-to-Body design and Blade Battery technology and is available with a range of power outputs and battery sizes. It also incorporates the world’s fastest electric motor in mass production at 23,000rpm.

Euro NCAP awarded the SEALION 7 an 87% rating for adult occupant protection, praising its whiplash protection and strong performance in both side barrier and severe side pole impact tests. The child occupant protection rating was even higher at 93%, matching the highest recorded score in the category over the past 9 years.

The Euro NCAP report noted: “In the frontal offset and side barrier tests, the SEALION 7 scores maximum points for protection of all critical parts of the body for both the 10-year and six-year dummies.”

It also highlighted the vehicle’s direct child-presence detection system, which alerts users if a child or infant is left in the vehicle.

Safety Assist technologies earned a 79% score, with the autonomous emergency braking system rated effective in responding to pedestrians and motorcyclists. Lane-support and speed-assistance systems were also included in the evaluation.

The SEALION 7’s rating follows similar five-star scores for BYD’s other European models, including the DOLPHIN, ATTO 3, SEAL U and SEAL U DM-i, SEAL and TANG.
