Evans Halshaw has published new research ranking the UK’s top electric vehicle (EV) road trips, based on accessibility for drivers.

The study assessed 10 popular routes using key EV-related metrics, including charging infrastructure, route length, accommodation with parking, and number of local attractions.

The South Downs ranked as the UK’s most EV-friendly road trip, achieving the highest score of 100. It was followed by the Peak District (95.72) and the Cotswolds (69.22).

These routes were praised for strong charging infrastructure, with the South Downs offering 250 nearby charging locations – more than any other route – and the highest charging point density at 1.39 chargers per kilometre.

At the other end of the table, Scotland’s North Coast 500 was found to be the least accessible for EVs, with a score of just 28.23. The route spans 839 km and has only 0.10 charging points per kilometre, requiring multiple full charges to complete.

The study also revealed significant variation in EV-friendly accommodation and local amenities. The Peak District led in terms of accommodation options with 442 properties offering parking, while Pembrokeshire had the lowest with just 41.

“In terms of attractions, the Peak District again topped the table with 1,344, compared to 228 in Pembrokeshire.

Rob Miller, group vice president at Evans Halshaw, said: “Evans Halshaw has completed this study and found these great routes for EV owners to enjoy across the UK, which have stunning sights to see, places to stay and attractions to visit.

“There are plenty of EV charging locations available throughout these road trips too, so you’ll only need a tiny bit of route planning, when driving along any of these spectacular routes.”
