British Car Auctions has reported a new record for online sales activity. The sales spike took place on Monday 11 December, coinciding with a significant snowfall.

On the day in question the BCA Live Online platform saw sales penetration hit a new high of 38.4%. The surge builds on a general trend, with record traffic for its Live Online platform with over 105,000 visits over a week in October. The growth is attributed to high buyer demand and improvements the firm has made to the purchase process.

Stuart Pearson, managing director UK remarketing at BCA said, “After a weekend of heavy snow and terrible driving conditions across much of the UK, Live Online gave buyers the chance to participate in the UK’s biggest vehicle exchange.”

He added, “Our fast-growing online audience of professional buyers can purchase stock 24/7 confident in the knowledge that vehicles will be delivered to their retail premises quickly and efficiently.” BCA Live Online allows remote buyers to compete with auction hall bidders in real-time.

The auctioneer has invested in mobile technology to allow buyers to bid ‘virtually’ via iPad or iPad mini. The system is optimised to run on Wi-Fi or 3G connection, meaning it can be used almost anywhere.
