The JT Hughes dealer group is testing a new voice search function for its website. The development comes as new data confirmed 20 per cent of all searches on google chrome are conducted by voice.

The new functionality will be available to PC, laptop, tablet and smartphone users of Google Chrome. When users arrive at the JT Hughes home page, they are given the option to activate their device’s mic. Once this has been done, searching for a used car is as simple as saying “blue Honda Jazz”.

The initial roll out of the functionality will be for searches on the group’s used vehicle database, with further area to be added in line with demand. The group may also expand the service to facilitate users of browsers other than Google Chrome at a later date.

Group Sales Director, Paul Tench, explained, “With a filter-based text search, it can take between five and ten clicks to reach desired results; we’re confident that voice search will shorten and simplify the search process for our customers, providing a valuable shortcut within the navigation process of looking for a used vehicle.”
