The boss of a motor finance firm might not be the stereotypical environmental campaigner, but Paul Burgess of Startline Motor Finance reckons his team have come up with a good way for the motor trade to save a small forest of paper when it comes to the finance application process.

In essence, Startline have introduced a way of doing business that does away with the need for paper forms to be printed out at the dealership, signed in ink by the customer and then scanned at the dealership, only to be e-mailed back to the finance company.

Talking about what they are doing, the motor trade’s green crusader, Startline CEO Paul Burgess says, “The old system would mean us e-mailing the paperwork to the dealer, who would then print it out for a traditional ‘wet’ customer signature, which would have to scanned and returned or sent back to us as a hard copy.

“Now, it is just a matter of a few clicks and returning the document online ‘signed’ by the customer using industry acknowledged standards for authentication. It very much brings the process into the 21st century.

“Also, with each proposal unavoidably running to something like 20-25 pages in total and multiple copies sometimes being printed, the savings in paperwork easily account for a small forest of trees.”

“As a company, we make a big noise about the human element in our relationships with customers and dealers, underlining our flexibility in looking at individual deals compared to most other motor finance providers.

“However, this doesn’t mean that we aren’t committed to technology. Over the next few months, we are undertaking several interesting initiatives in addition toDealflo, more details of which we will be able to release in due course.”
