MotorServ UK, the award-winning independent garage based in Solihull, has been acquired by Dack Motor Group in a strategic move to preserve jobs and ensure the continuity of service amid difficult trading conditions in the UK’s automotive sector.
Founded in 2014, MotorServ UK had grown to become the largest independent garage in the area, achieving a combined turnover of £9.3m by the end of 2022. However, following an 85% drop in used car transactions in 2023 and a 45% decline in servicing revenue over the past two years, founder Kamran Saleem has opted to step away from the business.
“This has been an extremely tough decision but safeguarding jobs and maintaining the high level of service that our loyal customers expect has been at the forefront of my mind,” Saleem said. “The challenges in the industry have made it increasingly difficult to operate independently, and allowing the business to join the larger Dack Motor Group is the most viable way forward for all parties. With Dack, not only are all the current jobs safeguarded but additional career opportunities will also be made available.”
MotorServ UK’s Solihull site will continue operating under new ownership, with a name change expected in due course. Dack Motor Group, which operates sites in Lincoln, Northampton and Coventry, plans to integrate the Solihull operation with enhanced systems, resources and stability.
“We understand the challenges that businesses like MotorServ UK have faced in recent times,” said Leo Dack, managing director of Dack Motor Group. “Our goal is to ensure stability for the team and to maintain the high standards of service that customers have come to rely on.”
MotorServ UK was known for its community engagement and innovative services such as a £15 no-pass-no-fee MOT and the Motor-Club service plan. The company hosted crime prevention and charity events in collaboration with local organisations and was recognised with numerous industry and community awards.
Saleem added: “For many years, MotorServ UK has been at the heart of the community. I have been passionate about providing apprenticeships and job opportunities for local people and offering affordable MOTs to keep people motoring safely. While I’m sad to let MotorServ go, I am committed to supporting the transition and ensuring continuity for both staff and customers.”
Once the transition is complete, MotorServ UK Ltd will be formally liquidated, with Dack Motor Group assuming all assets and staff on a clean slate basis.
