Exceptional environmental standards built into the latest addition to Toyota's UK centre network, Jemca Enfield, have been recognised with a BREEAM Excellent rating, the world's foremost buildings assessment for best practice in sustainable design, construction and operation.
Simon Boxall, Jemca Toyota Franchise Director, said: "We are immensely proud that our new centre has obtained the BREEAM Excellent certification, it is the highest recognition for what we have achieved at Enfield in terms of reducing our environmental footprint.
"The major investment we have made in the development sustains Toyota's commitment to minimising the environmental impact of all areas of its business, not just through the manufacturing of clean and fuel-efficient vehicles."
Key elements that helped secure BREEAM certification include a bio-mass boiler and designing workshop and office areas to maximise use of natural light, with electric lighting adjusting automatically in line with the level of daylight.
Rainwater is collected and filtered on site and reused for car washing, and the attention detail goes as far as the specification of smaller capacity lavatory cisterns to help reduce water use.
Targets have been set for the site's CO2 emissions and performance is tracked through monitoring power consumption. Measures are in place to reduce noise pollution by installing plant equipment with low background noise and to ensure security by liaising with police crime prevention specialists on best practice.
