45 year old engineer Maschka, who was until recently the President and CEO of the engine systems entity within supplier Continental AG, takes over from Bernt Ejbyfeldt. Prior Continental, he worked in Germany, France and India for Bosch.

Commenting on his new role, Maschka said, "I really believe in Volvo Car Corporation's potential and new strategy and I look forward to leading the purchasing team on the road ahead. With my multi-cultural experience from the automotive industry I will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing and our suppliers and partners to grow Volvo Car Corporation globally."

Hemberg starts her role on March 1st 2012, taking over the reins from Elisabet Wenzlaff who has decided to leave the company. Hemberg, 46, holds a Master in Law from the University of Lund, Sweden, and comes from a position as Legal counsel at SKF headquarters in Göteborg where she has worked since 2000, with focus on mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures and other corporate matters.

"I am very excited to join Volvo Car Corporation at a time of strong growth and development. Having worked in a global company, I am familiar with international cultures and relationships and not least the legal side of doing business in China," says Maria Hemberg.

Asked about the appointments, Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation said, "With a combination of sales, engineering and purchasing background from top automotive suppliers, I am very pleased to have Axel Maschka onboard. His experience will be a valuable asset for Volvo Car Corporation in our efforts to further develop and strengthen our sourcing and supplier base. The legal side of the business is very important, especially for a company like Volvo Car Corporation with our ambitious growth targets. I am very happy to welcome Maria Hemberg to the Volvo team, bringing with her an extensive legal experience."
